Teaser Tuesday #1

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! See the rules at the end of this post.

First of all the teaser of the week :

"Oh my gosh, I bought the cutest Indian beaded bag at the gift shop in the Best Western outside Sedona."
"I'm not that kind of Indian," Shanti said, her practised smile never leaving her face, though it faltered just a bit, and in that slight wobble was something hard and angry, something that looked like centuries of colonial oppression boiling up into an I'm-going-to-kick-your-ass-in-this-pageant-and-then-take-over-all-your-beauty-out-sourcing-needs hatred.

This teaser comes from Beauty Queens by Libba Bray, a book I discovered thanks to last week's Wishlist Wednesdays :o)
From bestselling, Printz award-winning author Libba Bray comes the story of a plane of beauty pageant contestants that crashes on a desert island.

Teen beauty queens. A “Lost”-like island. Mysteries and dangers. No access to email. And the spirit of fierce, feral competition that lives underground in girls, a savage brutality that can only be revealed by a journey into the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Oh, the horror, the horror! Only funnier. With evening gowns. And a body count.

This book isn't exactly literature but it is a fun read if you can keep the different characters straight. Right now, I still have a bit of trouble knowing who's who :o)

If you want to join in with Teaser Tuesdays, these are the rules set forth by MizB of Should Be Reading :

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

  1. I love the premise of this story. It sounds like a beach book I'd enjoy reading.

  2. I remember hearing about this one. I heard people enjoyed it for the fun. :)

I have a teaser up this week if you'd like to stop by...

  3. I have this one on my to-read list, I think. I've heard a lot of praise for it. Great teaser!
